Aims

Mission
The Kröller-Müller Museum is a museum for the visual arts in the midst of peace, space and nature. The museum offers visitors the opportunity to come eye-to-eye with works of art and to concentrate on the non-material side of existence.

Aims
The Kröller-Müller Museum aims to foster the public’s engagement with the visual arts through its internationally significant collection of modern and contemporary art. The collection is the basis for the dissemination of knowledge. The museum aims to carry out its museological responsibilities to the very highest standards, in a business-like and customer-oriented fashion and with an awareness of current social developments.

Vision
The Kröller-Müller Museum’s vision focuses on the creative interplay between the centre and the margins. In this way it wishes to contribute to a non-hierarchical approach to the visual arts. It pursues a policy that highlights and supports visual arts’ critical contribution to society and culture.

Policy
The Kröller-Müller Museum’s policy focuses primarily on its internationally renowned collection of works by Van Gogh, the sculpture garden, post-war art and drawings. The museum strives to give the collection optimum visibility: the exhibitions zoom in on the collection and/or display modern or contemporary art in the context of the collection in line with the museum’s vision. The Kröller-Müller Museum aims to reach a variety of audiences: we have identified our (potential) visitors through market research and tailor our programmes to meet changes in our (potential) audiences’ composition and wishes. It is therefore of the utmost importance that the organisation functions in a highly professional manner on all fronts. The Kröller-Müller Museum wishes to provide a retreat for those who seek peace and quiet, authenticity and a concentrated presentation of art in relation to architecture and nature.

The museum’s aims can be broken down into three components: firstly, the professional management and preservation of the collection of modern and contemporary art and its augmentation through meaningful acquisitions; secondly, striving to provide a meaningful and accessible presentation of the collection for our visitors; and thirdly, satisfying our various target groups’ needs for information and education through an efficient, differentiated and high-quality programme linked to a costumer-oriented approach. The combination of these three components leads to our most important aims: to impart knowledge and in so doing to encourage our visitors’ engagement with and curiosity and love of art.
