Work in progress: the Circle of Clothing

Artist Pet van de Luijtgaarden is currently working on the installation of his project The Circle of Clothing, that will be shown in the sculpture garden from 26 July.

British research has shown that the average woman owns 2,400 articles of clothing over her lifetime. The Circle of Clothing, which takes the form of a clothesline, symbolizes the life process from birth to death. The piece involves the collaboration of 120 designers, artists, and private individuals, who are upcycling 2,400 white, pink, and red articles of clothing. Second-hand clothes and a wide variety of objects collected by the artist will form a single large art installation. The project discusses the contemporary phenomenon of overconsumption in a playful, accessible way.

The Circle of Clothing will be on view from 26 July until 17 August 2014.
